Another high action, gung-ho suspense thriller from Robert, featuring his favourite characters, veteran soldiers Rob and Tex. In this, the second instalment in their superb series, set ten years after the two friends met in the jungles of Vietnam, they now find themselves embroiled in a nightmare closer to home. Rob, now working as a cop in a small town, is involved in a drug-related shooting, which sees his wife taken hostage in retaliation, by a vicious cartel. With time running out, it is left to our two veterans to again head into the jungle – this time the merciless environment of Colombia – to rescue her.
Robert’s books always read as a flag-waving testament to the armed forces and authoritative administrations of the United States, for whom the author has unwavering respect and admiration. The pride and affection for his country shines through in everything Robert writes, and in these days of political correctness and fashionable national self-deprecation, it is wonderfully refreshing to see – you will rarely come across a more genuinely patriotic writer. But his work is not simple chest-thumping – this author knows his military procedure and terminology, as well as the agencies which coordinate operations. A recurrent trademark of Robert’s writing is his ability to infuse his knowledge of his country’s defences with rousing, gripping and hugely entertaining books in the action-thriller genre. The tale is a simple one, but its quality is in the epic scale of its character cast, including the combined efforts of the police, F.B.I., U.S. Navy and even the president himself – think a little of Clancy meets Schwarzenegger’s Commando, and you have typical Saniscalchi, which My Life For Her most certainly is. This should give you some idea what to expect from this great value instalment to a superbly entertaining, good quality series.
